Fifth Sunday of Easter: Be Not Afraid

Collect: Almighty ever-living God, constantly accomplish the Paschal Mystery within us, that those you were pleased to make new in Holy Baptism may, under your protective care, bear much fruit and come to the joys of life eternal.

Yesterday’s OF Mass was a Mass for the special intentions of the seniors of the Class of 2015. The homily focused on the first reading (Acts 9: 26-31) when St. Paul arrived in Jerusalem and all the Apostles feared him.

This fear is something that we may have to relate to in our own lives, but for an entirely different reason.

Living the Catholic life is contrary to the life of the world. Loving authentically does not make sense to the morally relativistic. We have to be brave in loving both God and each other. Brave because the world may fear that love. Giving up one’s self just does not make sense in the temporal world.

In the end, though, let us pray that in becoming living witnesses of God’s love, we may set the world on fire with the love of Christ.

Wish me luck for the end of my undergraduate career.
